The FM-FMINDK38 is the cold air intake system for Ford's latest generation 1.5 liter 3 cylinder ST engine. As with all manufacturers in recent times, the need to make smaller engines more efficient and powerful has been the top priority of an engineer, which then poses a problem for the aftermarket manufacturers to improve on what's already built into the vehicle, but this hasn't stopped at Forge Motorsport.

Forge had a great deal of knowledge and know-how available from past development with all Ford models, but this is an entirely new powerplant which Forge had to spend a great deal of time testing to ensure that a product ended up with real improvements to the standard airbox.

The choice of filter was decided after weeks of real-world testing and hours on the dyno experimenting with different filter options. It has been found that the Forge pleated filter works best with an increase in horsepower and torque while maintaining the best filtration characteristics. The build quality of the filter is superb and it comes with a limited lifetime warranty. This performance filter was designed with a premium silicone coupler and W2 stainless steel hose clamps to connect the black anodized billet velocity stack. The filter is constructed from a high-quality, high-flow synthetic nanofiber filter media that is pleated to maximize surface area, thereby increasing airflow.

Using the speed stack's MAF sensor housing maximizes the smoothest possible airflow. The experienced CAD engineers simulated various MAF sensor housing models to create the best design for this kit. The following images demonstrate the benefit of using Velocity Stack Science and show the smoothed airflow into the MAF sensor housing and the intake tract from the air cleaner.

With the filter and MAF sensor housing combo, Forge saw total gains of 4 horsepower, but that only tells half the story when viewed on a dyno chart. One can achieve the increase in torque gains of 20 NM. On a tuned vehicle, this combination is an essential purchase as the OEM airbox proves too restrictive to achieve optimal performance levels and smooth power delivery.

As a by-product of FM-FMINDK38, the acoustics of the 1.5 engine have been improved, there is now a targeted induction roar under hard acceleration and a very addictive turbo chatter when you let off the gas. Not only to improve the aesthetics, but also as a heat shield from the hot engine, we've provided a laser-cut and powder-coated aluminum shield that surrounds the filter and contains the OEM air duct to direct cold air to the intake.

This kit can be installed on the OEM intake manifold or combined with the Forge FM-FMINLH21 silicone intake manifold (coming soon). The key here is to further smooth the airflow to the turbo and eliminate metal ducts as these are susceptible to greater heat soak and a potential loss of performance.

A common question is will this fit other aftermarket products or the intake hose? The answer is yes, it will fit other manufacturers inlet hoses and will fit the original Ford inlet hose.
