To convert to a gas strut to lift and hold your Golf 8 (petrol) bonnet.

If you have ever opened the bonnet on your Mk8 Golf, you will know the disappointment of finding a flimsy prop rod where a proper gas strut should be. Volkswagen’s decision to delete the factory strut was a cost-saving exercise, and it is one of the most common complaints from Mk8 owners. Racingline have produced a straightforward fix that brings the bonnet up to the standard it should have left the factory at.

This kit replaces the standard prop with a properly engineered gas strut, sized and pressured specifically for the weight of the Mk8 Golf bonnet. The result is a bonnet that lifts smoothly, holds itself open securely, and closes with a controlled, reassuring action.

Why fit it?

• No more fiddling with the prop rod when you need to check fluids or work in the engine bay.
• Correctly calibrated lift force – tested to give the right balance between easy opening and a firm hold.
• Stainless steel ball-end bracket included, machined to a high standard for long-term corrosion resistance.
• Fully reversible – if you ever want to revert to standard, simply unscrew it.

Simple DIY Installation
Fitting takes roughly ten minutes with basic hand tools. There is no cutting and no drilling required. The supplied stainless ball-end bracket screws directly onto the existing bonnet latch bracket stud, using mounting points that are already present on the car. From there, the gas strut clips into place and you are finished.

Important: This kit fits Mk8 Golf petrol models only. It is not suitable for any other vehicle, and is not designed for diesel or GTE variants where the engine bay layout differs.
